Dokuy: Off-season activities are providing a viable solution to the rural exodus in the commune of Dokuy. Following the rainy season, the planting of off-season crops is underway in various villages, including Kamadena, Goni, Denissa, Karasso, and Ayoubakonlon. This Friday, January 9, 2026, marked the beginning of intense gardening activities in these localities.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the opportunities created by off-season farming have significantly reduced the trend of young people leaving their villages in search of employment elsewhere. The initiative allows families to cultivate small gardens near their homes, leveraging the availability of water resources and the use of motor pumps, which simplifies regular watering.
Despite these advancements, local producers have expressed the need for better access to plant protection products to safeguard their crops, particularly onions and tomatoes, which are prone to diseases. Additionally, there is a demand for water reservoirs to support the various farming activities in the region.
