Kisumu — Obunga FC emerged victorious in the Safaricom Chapa Dimba Cup, defeating PASCA Langa 5-2 in a dramatic penalty shootout at Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium, Mamboleo-Kisumu. Goalkeeper Walter Odek played a pivotal role, making crucial saves that denied PASCA Langa the top prize of Sh1 million. The runners-up received Sh500,000 for their efforts.

According to Kenya News Agency, the victory was a testament to the team’s hard work, discipline, and strategic planning. Oketch also acknowledged the strong support from their fans throughout the tournament. The game commenced with George Ogutu scoring early for Obunga FC, but after a weather delay due to heavy rains, PASCA Langa leveled the score in the 70th minute with Alex Kamadi capitalizing on a goalkeeping error. Ultimately, the match was decided by penalties.

The semi-final saw Obunga FC secure their spot in the final by defeating LYSA FC 3-1. In a parallel competition for women, the defending champions Plateau Queens clinched the title by defeating Barcelona Ladies 4-0, thanks to standout performances, including a brace from Saumu Masungo. Queens coach Collins Opidi expressed pride in his team’s mental strength and tactical execution throughout the tournament.

The event, which saw significant attendance, including dignitaries such as Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o and Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa, underscored Safaricom Foundation’s commitment to nurturing young talent in football.
