Nyanza Region Commissioner Issues Stern Warning Against Exam Malpractice Ahead of National Examinations

Kisumu — Regional Commissioner Flora Mworoa issued a stern warning to students, teachers, and the public against any form of examination malpractice in the upcoming 2023 national examinations. The warning came during a press briefing held in Kisumu County on Friday.

According to a new release by Kenya News Agency, officials from both the education and security sectors have made comprehensive preparations to ensure the examinations proceed smoothly. Security measures have been increased across all 6,694 examination centers where the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will be administered.

Mworoa disclosed that 13,388 police officers have been deployed to provide the necessary security. “We have deployed two security personnel in each center to ensure the exams are conducted in a safe environment,” she said. The KCSE exams are set to begin on October 27, followed by the KCPE and KPSEA on October 30. In total, 151,783 Form 4 students, 227,637 Class 8 candidates, and 201,002 Grade 6 pupils in the Nyanza Region are expected to sit for these examinations.

In light of recent border conflicts in areas like Sondu and Nyakach Sub Counties, the commissioner reassured that security has been heightened. She noted that normalcy has been restored and schools in these areas have reopened in anticipation of the national exams. “We assure candidates in these areas of their safety as they sit for their exams,” Mworoa added.

In collaboration with the Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, the education sector has also identified flood-prone areas within parts of Kisumu, Migori, and Homa Bay Counties. “We have a chopper on standby to assist in the transportation of examination materials in areas that may experience high rains and floods,” stated Mworoa.
