Nyamira, Kenya – In a move to enhance accountability and efficiency in public service delivery, members of the Nyamira County Executive Committee (CECM) have signed performance contracts for the 2023/24 financial year. This initiative aims to provide a clear framework for the implementation of programs, projects, and policies within the county.
According to Kenya News Agency, who oversaw the signing ceremony, these performance contracts serve as a blueprint for the CECMs to deliver efficient services to the residents of Nyamira County. The governor emphasized the importance of these contracts in fulfilling his development agenda, which is based on three pillars: good governance and accessibility, inclusivity, wealth, and job creation. He stressed the critical role of each department in actualizing this agenda as outlined in his manifesto.
Governor Nyaribo highlighted the need for alignment of departmental activities, programs, and projects with both his development agenda and the constitution. He reminded the CECMs that the signing of these contracts is a commitment to accountability and service delivery, urging them not to treat this as a mere annual formality. Going forward, the governor requires quarterly performance returns from each department, with reports on progress towards achieving targets. He also stated that any gaps or failures in performance must be supported with factual reasons and evidence.
Governor Nyaribo affirmed his intention to closely monitor the performance of each department, evaluating the efficiency of service delivery in line with their commitments. He also encouraged the departments to build collaborations with relevant institutions both within and outside the county to effectively deliver their programs.
Deputy Governor Dr. James Gesami, who attended the ceremony, urged the CECMs to manage county resources prudently, considering the diverse needs and wants of the citizens.
The signing ceremony saw nine departmental CECMs and the County Attorney committing to the performance contracts for the upcoming financial year.
