Luanda: The Angolan Secretary of State for Social Communication, Nuno Caldas, emphasized the significant role of women as agents of transformation, promoters of peace, and drivers of inclusive development in Africa during an event in Luanda.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Caldas made these remarks on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the 2nd International Women's Forum for Peace and Democracy. The forum, which runs until Friday, is centered around the theme "Transforming Africa: Empowering Women in Leadership for Peace and Inclusive Growth on the Continent."
Caldas noted that the gathering provides an opportunity to reflect on empowering women in leadership roles to foster peace and inclusive growth across the continent. The forum's panels are set to discuss topics such as gender equality and the inclusion of women in economic, social, and political life, addressing challenges in ensuring effective participation by women in leadership positions in various African countries.
He highlighted that the event coincides with the 25th anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, an instrument acknowledging the central role of women in conflict prevention and resolution, mediation, decision-making, and peacebuilding. Caldas praised Angola's role in promoting peace, security, and stability on the continent and reaffirmed the Angolan Executive's commitment to peace, reconciliation, and gender equality within decision-making bodies.
Caldas also mentioned that Angola has set a positive example in advocating for the advancement of women, particularly within decision-making bodies. The forum sees the participation of 450 prominent figures, including representatives of civil society organizations, national and international partners, academics, and politicians.
