Windhoek: Swapo Party members in the Zambezi Region have paid tribute to Founding President Sam Nujoma, who died in Windhoek on Saturday at the age of 95. Speaking to Nampa on Monday, acting Swapo Party Regional Coordinator for Zambezi, Dorothy Kabula, described Nujoma's passing as a great loss, stating that a 'dark cloud will continue to hover over the country in the coming weeks' as the nation mourns the leader of the liberation struggle.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Kabula emphasized the importance of fulfilling Nujoma's vision, particularly his advocacy for the construction of a railway line from Grootfontein to Katima Mulilo. This project was a significant part of his vision for national development, which he continued to promote even during his retirement.
Nujoma was remembered as a unifier who was deeply committed to education and agriculture. Kabula recalled his visit to Zambezi, where he passionately spoke about constructing a canal from the Zambezi River to Lake Liambezi. This project aimed to facilitate water passage through Bukalo for irrigation purposes, highlighting his focus on agricultural development.
Kabula praised Nujoma for establishing peace, stability, and unity in Namibia, underscoring the importance of these values for the country's ongoing development. She expressed the commitment of the Swapo party in the Zambezi region to honor his legacy and contributions to the nation.
Nujoma served as Namibia's Founding President for 15 years, from 1990 until 2005. His leadership and vision have left a lasting impact on the nation, as expressed through the tributes and memories shared by those who admired him.
