Windhoek – The National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo) is set to host its pivotal congress this weekend at the Ramatex Centre in Windhoek, where party leaders will vie for top positions in the organisation.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the congress scheduled for July 13-14, 2024, will see delegates electing a new executive team that will lead Nudo for the next five years. This election comes as both the incumbent president Dr. Utjiua Muinjangue and Kauandenge himself have opted not to seek re-election. “We have put all systems in place to have a good congress regarding delegates’ preparedness, logistics, and so on. It’s all systems go,” Kauandenge told Nampa on Tuesday.
Among the notable candidates for the presidency are Vetaruhe Kandorozu, a former Okakarara constituency councillor; Peter Kazongominja, the Aminuis constituency councillor and current vice-president; and Joseph Uaraa Uapingene, the deputy mayor of Windhoek. The congress will also fill other critical roles, including vice president, national chairperson, and secretary-general among others.
Kauandenge highlighted that while specific nominations for many of these positions are yet to be declared, nominations will arise directly from the floor during the congress, allowing flexibility in candidate selection. “This means that a person can express his or her willingness to run for the president position, but on the day of the congress, he or she might be nominated for any other position,” he explained.
The party has also conducted fundamental vetting to ensure all attendees are legitimate members of Nudo, aiming to prevent any disruptions and maintain focus on party unity. Approximately 500 delegates are expected to participate in the event.
