Nouna Residents Rally in Support of Burkina Faso’s Transition Government

NOUNA — In a show of solidarity, residents of Kossi province, including customary and religious authorities, organized a march in Nouna on Saturday, January 27, 2024, to express their support for Burkina Faso’s Transition government.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the march saw a significant turnout with participants taking to Avenue Ouezzin Coulibaly, culminating at the High Commission where administrative, military, and paramilitary authorities of the province convened. The crowd commenced the gathering by singing the national victory anthem, reflecting their dedication to Burkina Faso.

Adama Cissé, the spokesperson for the march, commended the resilience of the local population amidst challenging times. He highlighted the positive impact of the events of September 30, 2022, marked by the arrival of MPSR 2, which instilled hope among the populace. Cissé emphasized the unwavering support of the Kossi region’s customary and religious authorities, as well as other active groups, to the Transition government, particularly in its efforts to reclaim territory.

Further, Cissé expressed gratitude towards the defense and security forces, including volunteers defending the homeland, for their significant contributions. He also requested authorities to ensure the return of populations to their localities before the rainy season, the reopening of national road 14, and the restoration of electricity supply.

Apollinaire Koné, president of the special delegation from Barani and representative of the High Commissioner, acknowledged the initiative and pledged to relay the community’s message to the appropriate channels. This event underscores the community’s active engagement and support for the ongoing political and security developments in Burkina Faso.
