Noumbiel: As part of the implementation of the mass treatment campaign against schistosomiasis, commonly known as bilharzia, the Batie health district is organizing an advocacy event with leaders, authorities, and media people in the Noumbiel province this Monday, November 24, 2025. The objective is to present the disease and take stock of the situation in the Batie health district, but above all, to get the participants to convince the population to follow the treatment during the mass campaign.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the campaign is scheduled from November 24 to 29, 2025, and primarily targets children aged 5 to 14, with the exception of pregnant and breastfeeding women. The event is chaired by the province's secretary general, Simeon Toe, and involves customary leaders, religious figures, members of associations, media personalities, military and paramilitary personnel, and those involved in education and teaching to ensure the success of the campaign.
Today's presenter, Dr. Nacoulma Abdoulaye, emphasized that schistosomiasis still remains in the province and can only be eradicated through "joint action." He highlighted that health centers, schools, markets, and other public places are the locations chosen to implement the campaign strategy.
The Secretary General invited the participants to act as intermediaries to pass on information and convince the people for the successful implementation of the campaign in their respective areas.
