OUAHIGOUYA — The Northern Regional Dialogue Framework (CRD-N) convened its first ordinary session of the year on Monday, February 26, 2024, in Ouahigouya, under the leadership of Issouf Ouédraogo, the Governor of the Northern region. During the opening ceremony, Governor Ouédraogo praised the efforts of all participants and urged them to continue their endeavors and adopt a proactive approach to enhance the provision of quality services aimed at improving the living conditions of the population, especially in the current security context.
According to Burkina Information Agency, led by Polycarpe Naré, Regional Director of Economy and Planning for the North (DREP), the session revealed that out of 117 expected deliverables, 53 have been fully realized, 43 are in the process of delivery, and 21 have not yet been initiated, resulting in a physical execution rate of 66%. Financially, the region reported an expenditure of 18.33 billion FCFA out of a projected budget of 21.56 billion FCFA, achieving an overall financial execution rate of 85%. Challenges such as delayed project start-ups, issues related to public contract awards, budgetary regulations, and security concerns were identified as reasons for the non-implementation of certain activities.
For the 2024-2026 period, the CRD members primarily recommended supporting the Security and Defense Forces (FDS) by enhancing their operational capacities with vehicles and logistical support, providing food for the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), and rehabilitating key security infrastructures, including police stations and gendarmerie brigades. The session, attended by the majority of statutory members, concluded with the examination and adoption of the regional annual performance report for 2023 regarding the national development policy and the regional stabilization and development action plan for 2024-2026.
DOHA — Ethiopia is participating in the Doha International Horticultural Expo, presenting its agricultural produce and initiatives, as announced by the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador Birtukan Ayano, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, emphasized the Expo's role in promoting Ethiopian agricultural products and facilitating access to international markets for the country's producers.According to Ethiopian News Agency, Ambassador Ayano highlighted the Ethiopian government's Green Legacy Initiative and shared the significant achievements in the wheat sector and other agricultural areas that have contributed to enhancing the nation's agricultural output. The Doha International Horticultural Expo, which began on October 2, 2023, offers a platform for Ethiopia to showcase its advancements and commitments to sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation. The event is scheduled to continue until March 28, providing an extended opportunity for Ethiopia to engage with international partners and stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
