Northern Regional Council Members Deliberate on CGCT Innovations

Ouagadougou: Members of the Northern Regional Special Delegation held their 2nd ordinary session of 2026 on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the institution's headquarters in Ouahigouya to better understand the major innovations of the new General Code of Territorial Authorities (CGCT), AIB observed on site.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this second session was chaired by Thomas Yampa, leader of the Regional Special Delegation. The session commenced with the welcoming of new members who joined an operational team tasked with implementing regional development projects. After the adoption of the minutes from the previous session, members deliberated on the revised 2026 Procurement Plan (PPM). This plan aims to expedite the implementation of infrastructure and basic social services like health, water, and education, directly benefiting the region's population.

Discussions on the CGCT innovations allowed participants to gain familiarity with the key changes in the code, which are designed for a more modern administration that is closer to the public and better adapted to local realities. The concerns of the members regarding the revised content of the code were addressed, clarifying their roles in executing their duties. This session represents a significant step in regional governance by strengthening the mechanisms necessary to effectively tackle development challenges and address the urgent needs of the region's population.
