Northam police are hard on the heels of robbery suspects who made off with thousands rands worth of cellphones and cash

The South African Police Service in Northam are investigating a business robbery incident that occurred yesterday on Tuesday 23 May 2023 at Ackermans Northam Plaza.

An employee was reportedly standing at the main entrance together with a colleague when an unknown male suspect entered the shop and pointed a firearm at them which was tucked inside his trouser.

The duo were forced to walk to the storeroom when three male suspects approached and asked who was the manager of the shop. She was identified and instructed to handover the cellphones and money that were stored at the premises.

The suspects who were speaking in Zulu language subsequently forced the staff members and customers who were inside the shop to go at the back of the store while threatening them with a firearm.

Afterwards, the victim was requested to open a safe but were unsuccessful. The suspects managed to open a cellphone drawer and cabinet before stealing cellphones including an undisclosed amount of cash from the tills.

Two hundred eighteen Android cellphones valued at thousands of rands were robbed by the suspects during the incident before fleeing the scene with a white Audi motor vehicle with Gauteng province registration numbers.

The suspects are unknown at this stage and a manhunt has been launched for their apprehension. Anyone with information that can assist should call Crime Stop number 0860010111 or the nearest police station or MySAPSApp.
