Non Voting Parliamentarians Sworn In for 8th National Assembly

Windhoek: Eight non-voting members of the 8th National Assembly, nominated by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, were sworn in on Saturday at Parliament. These appointees include individuals with diverse backgrounds and expertise, contributing to the parliamentary process without voting rights.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the nominated members are former Minister of Works and Transport, James Sankwasa; Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture Executive Director Sanet Steenkamp; retired former Executive Director in the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation Selma Ashipala-Musavyi; award-winning medical doctor Esperance Luvindao; Company Secretary at the Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund Wise Immanuel; Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs Frans Kapofi; Deputy Country Director of the United Nations World Food Programme Erica Shafudah; and Mac Hengari.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah is expected to announce the members of the Cabinet later on Saturday, adding further to the political developments. The Swapo Party has secured a majority with 51 seats in the assembly, followed by the Independent Patriots for Change with 20 seats. Other significant parties include Affirmative Repositioning with six seats, while both the Popular Democratic Movement and the Landless People's Movement hold five seats each. Several smaller parties have also gained representation in Parliament.
