Nobel Laureate Physicist Chen Ning Yang Passes Away at 103

Beijing: Renowned physicist Chen Ning Yang, a Nobel laureate and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, died in Beijing on Saturday at the age of 103. Yang's passing was confirmed by Tsinghua University.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Yang was born in Hefei, located in east China's Anhui Province, in 1922. In the 1940s, he traveled to the United States to further his academic studies and subsequently held teaching positions there. In 1957, Yang was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics.

Yang, along with Robert Mills, introduced the Yang-Mills gauge theory, which is regarded as one of the significant achievements in 20th-century physics.

For over 20 years after returning to China, Yang taught at Tsinghua University, where he played a key role in cultivating talent, recruiting young academics, and promoting international academic exchanges.
