Garissa, Kenya – Noordin Haji, Director of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), spearheaded a tree planting campaign in the Ijara constituency of Garissa County on Monday. This initiative aligns with the Kenyan government’s declaration of Monday as a tree planting day. Alongside environmental conservationist Ambassador Medina Amin, Haji encouraged local residents to actively participate in tree planting efforts to counteract the region’s escalating climate change effects.
According to Kenya News Agency, the tree planting activities were conducted at several locations, including Yusuf Haji Girls Secondary School, Alfurqan Orphanage Centre, and County Mix Secondary School. Ijara MP Abdi Ali Sheikh led the planting at the Ijara NG CDF offices in Masalani Town, where he announced plans to plant 50,000 trees in the area by the end of the week. Sheikh emphasized the importance of these efforts in addressing frequent floods and droughts in the region.
