Centre-nord: The first edition of the Centre-Nord Night of Stars celebrated on Saturday in Kaya the excellence and exceptional performances of athletes as well as the commitment of sports personalities and former sportsmen and women from the region.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event was orchestrated by Alphonse Kafando, the general commissioner of the “Night of the Stars of the Centre-Nord,” who is also a teacher, sports journalist, and football referee. The primary aim of this event is to promote the achievements of active athletes as well as those of sports personalities and former athletes of the region.
The event honored five sports players from disciplines including cycling, volleyball, pétanque, karate, and football with trophies for their commendable performances. Additionally, Me Taryam Ouédraogo, the founder of the Taryam Karate Club of Kaya and president of the Centre-Nord Karate League, was recognized as the Personality of the Year. He received a trophy and gadgets for his contr
ibutions to sports.
Former sports heroes like Mr. Sylvain Sawadogo, a former Vö-Viêt Nam national champion and former national technical director, were awarded certificates of recognition for their past achievements. The Commissioner General highlighted the resilience and collective victory of the region in overcoming security and humanitarian challenges through the accomplishments of these sports figures.
The initiative was lauded by various speakers who believe it will inspire young talents in the region, boosting the national sports scene. Mr. Kafando was encouraged to continue this initiative, aiming to establish it as a significant event for sports in Burkina Faso.
The inaugural edition of the Centre-North Stars Night was organized by a committee of sports journalists and sports promotion stakeholders. It took place at the Zam Hotel in Kaya, under the patronage of the Governor of the Centre-North, represented by the Secretary General of the Sanmatenga province, Pasnewindé Ouédraogo, and under the chai
rmanship of the Regional Director of Sports and Leisure, Madou Coulibaly. The ceremony was attended by Lassina Sawadogo, a sports journalist at RTB and general commissioner of the Étalon en Or, who was the guest of honor for this edition.
