ABUJA— Terrorists who attacked a Kaduna-bound train on March 28 have released five more kidnap victims.
Those freed include one who was shot in the kidnappers’ den during a friendly fire, identified as Mukthar Shu’aibu.
The names of the five victims who were released on Tuesday are Prof. Dr. Mustapha Umar Imam, Akibu Lawal, Abubakar Ahmed Rufai, Mukthar Shu’aibu and Sidi Aminu Sharif.
Shu’aibu was shot during a friendly exchange of fire in the forest.
Malam Tukur Mamu, the lead mediator who had earlier facilitated the release of 11 other victims with the support of other stakeholders confirmed it on Tuesday.
Mamu is the Publisher of Kaduna-based Desert Herald and Media Consultant to a controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi.
He later withdrew as one of the negotiators due to threats to his life, personal integrity and lack of support from the Nigerian Government.
He said the five of them were in his office following their release by the terrorists.
