OUAGADOUGOU—The Nigerien authorities launched an operation on Wednesday to sell rice at moderate prices, providing consumers with a 25kg bag of rice for 13,500 F instead of the usual 17,000 F.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the operation, known as "Zantchen Kassa" or "Labou Sanni," began with around ten points of sale opened in five communes of Niamey and will gradually extend to the entire country, as detailed by the ANP. During the launch, Trade Minister Seydou Asman urged buyers and sellers to adhere strictly to the guidelines, warning against any violations.
Niger is currently facing terrorist attacks, creating a challenging economic and humanitarian situation for its population.
