Niger Recovers Over 43 Billion FCFA in Misappropriated State Funds

NIAMEY — Niger has successfully recovered approximately 43 billion FCFA in misappropriated state funds, marking a significant milestone in the country’s ongoing efforts to address economic and financial malpractice.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Colonel Abdoul Walid Djibo, president of the Commission for the Fight against Economic, Financial and Fiscal Delinquency (COLDEFF), reported the figures after a meeting with Niger’s President, General Abdourahamane Tiani, on April 19, 2024. The total recovered funds amount to 42,930,622,813 FCFA, consisting of 24,312,760,169 FCFA in cash and 18,617,862,644 FCFA in prospective recoveries.

Colonel Djibo emphasized that COLDEFF’s primary role is to reclaim funds that were diverted and wasted by a number of unscrupulous individuals, reflecting a broader governmental push under General Tiani to enhance governance and financial accountability.
