Niamey: The Public Prosecutor of Niger’s Specialized Judicial Unit for the Fight against Terrorism and Transnational Organized Crime has ordered an investigation into alleged biased statements made by France 24 journalist Wassim Nasr, following terrorist attacks in the Sahel region. The prosecutor’s office raised concerns that Nasr may have been in direct contact with the attackers and shared information that could be seen as supporting terrorism.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Nasr’s public statements after recent terrorist attacks, including the September 17, 2024, attack in Bamako, suggest he received real-time communication from the attackers, revealing sensitive information such as their targets and positions. The prosecutor’s office believes Nasr’s actions could constitute criminal offenses, including complicity in terrorism and apology for terrorism. An investigation has been launched to determine whether Nasr or others involved should face charges for these offenses.
The office also praised the bravery of the Sahel’s Defense and Security Forces, assuring the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to hold those responsible accountable.
