NGO Res Publica Empowers Nanoro Women with Health Awareness on Non-Communicable Diseases

Nanoro: The NGO Res Publica and health professionals are equipping women with information on non-communicable diseases. The NGO Res Publica, in partnership with local health services, organized on Monday, March 30, an awareness session for women in the commune of Nanoro on the dangers of chronic non-communicable diseases, including breast cancer, cervical cancer, diabetes, and high blood pressure, AIB observed.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting, held in the NGO's meeting room, focused on two main areas: a detailed presentation of the diseases and the preventive measures to adopt, illustrated by practical simulations. This session also provided a valuable forum for discussion, allowing participants to address, without taboo, health issues that had previously seemed complex to them.

Health professionals used this platform to raise awareness among the audience about risk factors related to the development of cancers, emphasizing the dangers of adulterated drinks, the consumption of prohibited products, and poor food hygiene.

More than a hundred women from 14 villages in the department took part in this conference. Amelie Nignan/Nebie, facilitator at Res Publica and coordinator of the campaign, expressed her satisfaction with the enthusiasm generated by the event. "In the past, these women lacked information about the nature and danger of these diseases," she noted.

For her part, Bintou Ouedraogo/Ouedraogo, midwife at the Urban Medical Center (CMU) of Nanoro and speaker of the day, welcomed this initiative which made it possible to "uncover precancerous pathologies" and to demonstrate the importance of breast self-palpation, as well as early screening for diabetes and hypertension.

She urged the participants to become local liaisons with their peers, while inviting them to take part in monthly awareness-raising activities conducted in public places (markets, places of worship, schools).

The president of a women's organization and participant, Yamba Ouedraogo, expressed her satisfaction, stating that "this conference allowed me to better understand the manifestations of these pathologies and the attitudes to adopt to prevent them. I thank the trainers and the NGO Res Publica for their commendable actions in favor of women."
