BIEHA: An initiative by Helen Keller International (HKI) has delivered solar drilling equipment worth 80 million FCFA to benefit three villages in the Sissili Province. This development aims to enhance agricultural productivity through innovative and sustainable practices, marking a significant step toward improving the living conditions of local communities. According to Burkina Information Agency, HKI organized a ceremony in Néboun, a village in the rural commune of Bieha, to officially hand over market gardening perimeters equipped with solar boreholes to the villages of Néboun, Lan, and Vara. This initiative, part of the Résifa project, strives to introduce a new model of agricultural exploitation that supports structural transformation through three production cycles per campaign. The establishment of these solar-powered market gardening areas is expected to boost the production of orange-fleshed sweet potatoes (OFSP) among other crops. Abibata Nama, a representative of the beneficiaries, along with A lfred Zerbo, president of the special delegation of the rural commune of Bieha, expressed their appreciation for the project's impact on their community. Mr. Zerbo conveyed his optimism about the potential improvements in living conditions due to these investments. He assured HKI and its partners of the beneficiaries' commitment to maintaining the infrastructure for their prosperity. HKI's interim country representative, Régina Traoré Khassanova, highlighted that the project will affect 300 women farmers from the involved villages. The facilities are expected to produce fresh and nutritious vegetables for home consumption and generate additional income, while also improving access to water. Tewindé Isaac Sia, the High Commissioner of Sissili Province, expressed gratitude on behalf of the beneficiary communities to HKI and the donor for their support. He urged the communities to diligently care for the new infrastructure and utilize the spaces as exemplary models for other areas.
