Bomet, Kenya — The National Fund for the Disabled of Kenya (NFDK) has enhanced its support for persons living with disabilities in Bomet County through a significant donation of machines and equipment, designed to facilitate socio-economic empowerment. This initiative falls under NFDK’s flagship projects, which focus on lifting beneficiaries out of poverty by providing tools and resources for economic advancement.

According to Kenya News Agency, Assistant Director of NFDK, who spoke during the equipment handover in Bomet, the organization is actively implementing three major projects within the county. These projects not only provide direct assistance to persons with disabilities (PWDs) but also bolster institutions dedicated to their care and support.

The NFDK’s efforts include providing up to KES 300,000 in small grants to institutions serving PWDs and larger flagship initiatives with budgets around KES 3 million for constructing essential facilities such as dormitories, dining halls, and physiotherapy centers.

Individual beneficiaries of the program receive rehabilitative devices and tools relevant to their trades, which are expected to uplift them economically. Aliya highlighted that such donations are part of the NFDK’s core mission to support PWDs across the country by enhancing their financial independence through the provision of various equipment and machines.

In a more detailed account of their contributions, Aliya shared that in the sub-counties of Chepalungu and Bomet Central, the NFDK has distributed items like sewing machines, hair salon kits, and farming tools to those who had submitted requests to the organization.

Furthermore, the fund has reached a milestone with the completion of a dormitory at Korara Special School in Bomet East, a project costing three million shillings. Another major achievement includes the sponsorship of a dining hall and the supply of kitchen equipment worth KES 2.7 million at St. Kizito Girls Special School.

In his address to the recipients, Bomet Central Deputy County Commissioner Victor Kisachi encouraged them to utilize the tools provided to transform their economic standing and cautioned against selling the donated items. He emphasized that the government’s commitment to addressing the needs of PWDs is demonstrated by such initiatives and the distribution of essential equipment to aid in their livelihood.
