Migori, Migori County – The National Funds for the Disabled of Kenya (NFDK) has made a significant contribution to educational accessibility in Migori County by constructing two new classroom blocks specifically designed for children with disabilities. Prof. Julia Ojiambo, a member of the NFDK Board of Trustees, inaugurated the facilities at Migori Primary School, Suna West Sub County. The project, which includes two classrooms and a workshop, was completed at a cost of Sh3 million, marking a crucial step in providing educational opportunities for local children with disabilities.
According to Kenya News Agency, NFDK, a government endowment fund, is dedicated to empowering persons with disabilities through funding support to individuals and institutions. Prof. Ojiambo revealed NFDK’s ongoing commitment to funding infrastructure such as classrooms, dormitories, physiotherapy departments, and kitchens for disabled children nationwide. She emphasized the importance of inclusive education and the need for suitable learning environments for all children in Kenya.
The construction of the two classrooms at Migori Primary School, funded by NFDK, is part of a broader initiative to promote inclusivity in education. Migori County’s Chief Officer for Education, Gender Youth, and Social Services, Prof. Rose Odhiambo, detailed the county’s collaborative efforts to ensure universal access to education. She recognized NFDK’s role in supporting disabled learners and called for more non-governmental organizations to participate in this cause.
Prof. Odhiambo also highlighted the provision for disabled students who may not directly proceed to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), stating that the newly built workshop would supplement their professional training. Moses Maranda, the head teacher of Migori Primary School, mentioned that the Teacher’s Service Commission (TSC) has appointed a new head teacher for the special school, with additional teachers assigned to support the learning center.
