New State Comptroller General Vows to Combat Corruption in Burkina Faso

OUAGADOUGOU: The newly appointed State Comptroller General of Burkina Faso, Lassané Compaoré, has sworn to uphold the interests of the Burkinabe people with objectivity and impartiality, committing to advancing the nation’s fight against corruption. In a solemn ceremony before the Constitutional Council, Compaoré emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in public service.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Compaoré took his oath on Thursday, December 12, 2024, in Ouagadougou. He pledged to defend the interests of the citizens and to execute his duties with the objectivity expected of a public servant. Compaoré expressed a commitment to ensuring that the country makes progress in combating corruption, highlighting that each success in this endeavor represents a step toward national development.

Lassané Compaoré, an economist and treasury inspector, was appointed on November 20, 2024, to a single five-year term as the State Comptroller General at the High Authority for State Control
and the Fight against Corruption (ASCE-LC). The President of the Constitutional Council, Barthélémy Kéré, underscored the critical role of the State Comptroller General in ensuring transparency and effectiveness in public governance. Kéré noted that the public’s expectations for good governance are at an all-time high, emphasizing that expertise, duty, and integrity are vital for upholding administrative principles.

Compaoré’s background includes auditing and controlling public finances, with experience in conducting accounting audit missions across West and Central Africa. Prior to his new role, he served as an advisor to the Court of Auditors since 2021, contributing to the oversight of state operations.
