New Solidarity Association Launched in Burkina Faso to Foster Community Support and Women’s Empowerment

CINKANSSE, Burkina Faso — The secretary general of Koulpelogo province, Patindé Zoungrana, officially launched the New Solidarity Association of Burkina Faso (ASNBF) on Saturday, July 27, 2024, in Cinkanssé, aimed at building a robust network of community support and enhancing social assistance.

According to Burkina Information Agency, a beneficiary and member of the Zemstaaba cooperative in Cinkanssé, the ASNBF’s inaugural activities included distributing recognition certificates to focal points across the Center-East region municipalities and providing financial support. Segda, who received 100,000 CFA francs to aid her saponification and breeding projects, expressed hope for additional support to expand her business. “I am a beginner and I hope to have more support to progress,” she said.

The ASNBF’s primary mission is to bolster participatory social assistance, community initiatives, and provide financial and material support to its members, fostering a stronger sense of solidarity. Etienne Kéré, the regional focal point for the Center-East, emphasized the transformative potential of the ASNBF for the region and encouraged broader participation. “I would like to inform the members of Kourittenga, the Centre-East, and all of Burkina Faso in general, that our association was born to bring change. I therefore appeal to the members of Kourittenga to get along and join hands. They received certificates, which shows that a lot is expected of them,” he stated.

Patindé Zoungrana praised the ASNBF for its commitment to aiding those affected by regional insecurity and displacement. “Many people have been displaced due to insecurity and who have become destitute and we must help them. This is why those responsible for the association decided to do something to help them,” Zoungrana noted.

Additionally, the ASNBF has placed special emphasis on empowering women, providing education, training, and financial support to improve their income-generating activities. In the commune of Yargatenga, 550 women members of the ASNBF are set to receive support to enhance their economic endeavors.
