New Shea Processing Unit to Bolster Women’s Economic Empowerment in Fada N’Gourma

Fada n'gourma: The governor of the Goulmou region, Ram Joseph Kafando, laid the foundation stone for a shea nut processing unit for the benefit of women on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in Fada N'Gourma, on the occasion of the celebration of International Women's Day. This infrastructure aims to strengthen women's income-generating activities and to leverage the significant shea potential of the Eastern region.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the Women Processors Association, Nassouri Ramatou, expressed the beneficiaries' gratitude to the government and local authorities for this initiative promoting women's economic empowerment. She emphasized the vital role of women in local product processing activities and described the new shea butter processing unit as a significant boost to their efforts.

Ms. Nassouri highlighted the Eastern region's strong potential in shea nuts, making the establishment of such a unit particularly relevant for improving local processing and creating more economic opportunities for women. She noted that equipping themselves with a processing unit would bolster their activities and enhance the resilience of women, particularly internally displaced persons who are very active in these activities.

The future processing unit is expected to increase shea butter production, improve working conditions for women, and contribute to boosting the local economy. The groundbreaking ceremony is part of the commemorative activities of March 8 in the Goulmou region, which are focused on promoting the economic empowerment of women and the development of local products.
