New NASSIT Board Chair Introduced to Labour Minister

Freetown: National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) Director General Mohamed Fuaad Daboh has formally presented the newly appointed Board Chairperson, Madam Isata Marrah, to Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security Mohamed Rahman Swaray. The meeting marked an official introduction following Madam Marrah's completion of the parliamentary process, which included interviews and approval by lawmakers before her appointment. According to Sierra Leone News Agency, Minister Swaray warmly welcomed Madam Marrah and highlighted the timely nature of her arrival, given NASSIT's current trajectory of expansion and service improvement. He underscored the importance of collaboration between the ministry and NASSIT, emphasizing the need to enhance wages and welfare for Sierra Leonean workers. Minister Swaray pointed out several recent achievements under NASSIT's current leadership, including the commissioning of a district office in Moyamba and the implementation of a more effective identification syst em with new contributor ID cards. Additional district offices are also planned for commissioning in the coming months. The Minister linked Madam Marrah's appointment to broader government commitments under President Julius Maada Bio, citing the recent increase in the national minimum wage as a testament to the administration's dedication to worker welfare. He stressed the importance of workers retiring with dignity and happiness, noting NASSIT's role in protecting contributors against contingencies as provided for in the Act. Madam Isata Marrah expressed her gratitude to both the Minister and the Director General for facilitating her introduction. She emphasized the fundamental role of social security in society and expressed her enthusiasm about joining NASSIT at this pivotal moment. She praised Director General Daboh's leadership for the institution's strength and commended the government's minimum wage increase while expressing support for extending coverage to informal sector workers. Although she has yet to fully assume her responsibilities, she expressed confidence in NASSIT's continued growth and achievement of strategic goals through collective guidance.
