New Boreholes and Latrines Enhance Living Conditions for IDPs in Solenzo


BANWA — Internally displaced women in Solenzo celebrated the inauguration of two new boreholes and latrines aimed at improving their living conditions, at a ceremony held in sector 3 of the city.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the PDS of Solenzo, the project was urgently accepted when the NGO EngenderHealth proposed the aid, considering the critical need for water and sanitation among the nearly 40,000 displaced residents. The facilities, located in sectors 1 and 3, were designed to help preserve health and dignity in the face of challenging conditions. The boreholes are equipped with human-powered pumps, providing a reliable water source that had been lacking, as recounted by Abibou Porgo, a representative of the beneficiaries.



The handover ceremony was attended by several local dignitaries, including Abdoul Kader Kongzabré, Secretary General of Banwa Province, who emphasized the significant impact these facilities will have on the daily lives of the displaced populations. After the ceremonial ribbon-cutting, officials demonstrated the operation of the new pumps, marking a hopeful milestone for the community.
