Bogotá—In a recent update from the Colombian Football Federation (FCF), midfielder Nelson Deossa, previously uncapped, has been selected for Colombia’s national team to participate in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Chile.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Deossa, 24, has earned his place in the national squad following notable performances with Pachuca in Mexico’s Liga MX, as observed by Cafeteros manager Nestor Lorenzo. The 29-man squad also features prominent players such as Rayo Vallecano’s James Rodriguez, Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, and Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran. However, Carlos Cuesta, Yerson Mosquera, and Rafael Borre will miss the qualifiers due to injuries.
Colombia is set to face Bolivia in El Alto on October 10 and will meet Chile in Barranquilla five days later. Currently, the Cafeteros rank second in the 10-team South American World Cup qualifying group, holding 16 points from eight games, just two points behind Argentina. The squad details include goalkeepers Alvaro Montero, Camilo Vargas, and Kevin Mier; defenders such as Cristian Borja, Daniel Munoz, and Davinson Sanchez; midfielders including James Rodriguez and Jefferson Lerma; and forwards like Jhon Cordoba and Luis Diaz.
