Nearly Two Million Pilgrims to Assemble at Mount Arafat for Key Hajj Ritual

MECCA - Close to two million pilgrims are expected to gather this Saturday at the holy Mount of Arafat for a pivotal day of prayers and reflection during the Hajj, as stated by Saudi authorities who underscored the importance of the Nusuk card for participation.

According to Burkina Information Agency, pilgrims should be well-prepared for the assembly at Mount Arafat, emphasizing the need for punctuality and adherence to schedules to ensure the smooth conduct of the rituals. The ministry has also stressed on social media the importance of following the transport schedules and the directives of group leaders to avoid any inconveniences or overcrowding.

The Ministry further noted that possession of the 'Nusuk' card, a mandatory document for all regular pilgrims, is crucial for accessing the sacred site. Security measures have been heightened, with teams actively monitoring compliance and arresting those without the valid Nusuk card. An integrated system has been implemented, along with intelligent applications to enhance the security and comfort of the pilgrims.

For the first time, additional health and safety protocols have been introduced by Saudi authorities to better manage the massive influx of pilgrims. The Nusuk card, introduced by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, aims to facilitate smoother movement between Mecca and other Holy Places, improve access to health services, and help in identifying pilgrims' residences.

The ministry also reported that the Holy Places Train has been operational since the 7th of Dhu al-Hijjah, transporting pilgrims and is scheduled to make 2,000 trips during the Hajj season of 1445 AH. This transportation initiative is part of broader efforts to accommodate over two million passengers.

Additionally, infrastructure improvements at Mount Arafat include modernized camps and newly created green spaces to provide shade and reduce the heat for pilgrims. Paths suitable for seniors and individuals with special needs, along with routes for golf carts, have been established to enhance accessibility and comfort.

Mount Arafat, also known as 'Jabal ar-Rahma' or 'Mountain of Mercy', is a significant location in the Hajj pilgrimage, located approximately 15 kilometers east of Mecca. The site includes a hill accessible via 91 steps and features a four-meter-high monument at its center.

As the pilgrims began converging on Mina from Friday to mark the day of Tarwiyah, they prepare for the upcoming spiritual assembly at Mount Arafat, continuing a tradition established by the Prophet Muhammad.
