Nearly 71,000 hectares of state property, including 80% of agricultural land surveyed so far (minister)

The national project for the census and evaluation of the state’s tangible assets has so far identified 71,000 hectares of real estate worth a total of 4 billion dinars.

Minister of State Property and Land Affairs, Mohamed Rekik, told TAP on the sidelines of an international conference on the management system of land resources that 80% of the identified public real estate is agricultural. These properties have been registered in the state’s land registry, Rekik said.

He added: ‘when all state property is identified, it will be properly exploited and recorded in written and digital registers, and a database will be created for this purpose and made available to investors.

Rekik said investors will be able to access the database to get information about the properties available to the state. All they have to do is submit an application for the use of the property, either through lease, partnership, concession or other forms of use.

The national project for the census and evaluation of state property aims to develop the entire land register and to evaluate and update all the data.

It should be recalled that this programme was launched in May 2021 and in 2022 was the focus of a collaboration between five ministerial departments (Agriculture, Equipment, Justice and Education and State Property).

It has identified assets that can be used by these departments, pending the completion of the remaining assets for the other departments in the next phase.
