Kiambu town: Kiambu Town MP Machua Waithaka hosted the Romanian Ambassador to Kenya, Her Excellency Getiana Serbu, at the Ndumberi ICT Hub, where she donated computers and announced scholarship opportunities for the youth. During the visit, the Ambassador presented 20 laptops to the hub to support future students who will be reporting for ICT training. On the same day, the hub issued certificates to 400 graduates from the Class of 2026, marking a major milestone in advancing digital skills and opportunities for young people in Kiambu. Kiambu continues to shine as a leading county in youth empowerment.
According to Kenya News Agency, the Centre Manager, Samuel Wainaina, noted that the Member of Parliament had previously promised to donate laptops to the hub, and his visit was a fulfillment of his pledge. He noted that this milestone will greatly benefit incoming students by giving them an easier and more efficient training experience.
Among the top students who received certificates for the just-concluded January 9, 2026 class were Joseph Mwangi, Francis Githua, and Florence Njoroge. The Ndumberi ICT Hub has now celebrated its third cohort of graduates, marking another major milestone in its growth. Compared to the previous graduation, where 200 students completed the programme, this year's number has doubled, a clear sign that more young people are embracing digital skills and stepping confidently into the digital world.
Peter Muchendu, a Director at the Konza Technopolis, who was in attendance, underscored how the Vision 2030 programme has created job opportunities for thousands of young people across the country. He emphasized the importance of digital skills in shaping Kenya's future workforce.
Hon. Waithaka added that digital work is opening global opportunities for young people in Kiambu. He explained that many youths are now able to work for clients abroad through the internet and digital platforms. "Someone in Kenya can find clients online for a person overseas and earn ten percent of the payment. That is the kind of opportunity we are trying to create for you," he said.
Hon. Machua Waithaka congratulated the Class of 2026 for their remarkable achievement and commended them for taking a bold step toward securing their future as the youth of Kiambu County. He also highlighted several ongoing development projects within his constituency aimed at expanding opportunities for young people.
Ambassador Getiana Serbu congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to use technology as a tool for independence rather than becoming enslaved by it. She reaffirmed Romania's commitment to supporting Kenyan youth, promising continued scholarship opportunities for more young people across the country.
