NDP Vows to Stop Zambezi Residents’ Suffering

Zambezi: President of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Martin Lukato Lukato, has urged the people of the Zambezi Region to vote for the NDP if they want to stop suffering and root out corruption. Speaking at a star-rally held at Kamunu village conference hall on Saturday, Lukato said it is high time people choose his party as it knows and understands the grassroots needs of the people of the region and beyond. 'NDP will make sure we stop your suffering. NDP belongs to the people and the people are NDP and NDP is the servant of the people...' he said.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Lukato announced a list of his candidates who will contest in the regional council and local authority elections slated for 26 November 2025. He stated that people should not vote for the wrong individuals and political parties, stressing that by voting for the NDP, people are freeing themselves from corruption and embracing transparency and equality. He said in Zambezi, his party will contest for seats on the Bukalo village council and the Katima Mulilo Town Council (KMTC) as well as in all the eight constituencies. Outside the Zambezi, NDP will contest in selected regional constituencies and local authority elections of Kavango East, Kunene, Omusati, Oshikoto, and Erongo regions.

Additionally, those elected, according to him, will sign performance agreements and if they fail to perform or are found to be involved in corrupt activities they will be recalled by the party. He stated that one political party cannot be getting 100 percent in one region, hence his party wants to change that especially in Omusati.

Lukato reminded the people that while in parliament he will continue to advocate for a safer and cheaper mode of transport, the construction of the railway line from Grootfontein to Katima, and lobby for an increase in social grants and old-age pensions for senior citizens from the current N. dollars 1,600 up to N. dollars 5,000 as well as lobby for free water and electricity for the elderly. David Mwilima, who serves as vice-president, stressed that people have suffered a lot and it's about time they 'conquer the region' and change the status quo by voting for NDP, while Violet Lukato, an aspirant local authority councilor on the KMTC, promised to fight for a reduction in rates and taxes and improve the road network of the town.
