Windhoek: Super middleweight boxer Paulinus Ndjolonimus has set his sights firmly on world honours as he prepares for the biggest bout of his career, a high-stakes clash against Denmark's undefeated Jacob Banks. Ndjolonimus is expected to go up against his opponent on 25 April 2026 in a blockbuster contest that carries far more than bragging rights. At stake is the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) global super middleweight title and the World Boxing Council (WBC) world title eliminator, a pathway that could propel the winner into a full world title shot. According to Namibia Press Agency, ranked seventh in the world by the WBO, Ndjolonimus holds the WBO Africa Super middleweight crown and boasts an imposing professional record of 20 wins and just one defeat. The Namibian says the contest represents more than another defence or ranking fight. 'To be the best you have to beat the best, and this is an opportunity I am grabbing with both hands. I am fully focused and ready. There is no fear about fighting on fore ign soil; I have done it before. I am going there to represent myself, my country, and Africa as a whole,' he said. Victory would see him seize the WBO Global title from Banks and dramatically strengthen his position in both the WBO and WBC rankings. Meanwhile, Banks enters the contest unbeaten in 18 fights, with 18 victories to his name. The Danish champion is currently rated number three by the WBO and number four by the WBC. Ndjolonimus told Nampa his preparation with his stable, the MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Academy, has gone well under the watchful eye of veteran trainer and promoter Nestor Tobias - who believes the fight carries national significance. 'We have put Namibia on the world map before with former world champions such as Paulus Moses, Paulus Ambunda, and Julius Indongo. If you look at our small population and what we have achieved, it is outstanding. We will continue developing our athletes and flying the flag for the Land of the Brave,' Tobias said. Should Ndjolonimus prevail, he would no t only claim a prestigious international belt, but move within touching distance of a world title opportunity.
