Ohangwena Governor Walde Ndevashiya has urged Namibians to celebrate their heritage and keep their culture alive as it forms the backbone of lives.

Ndevashiya during the official opening of heritage week at Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region on Tuesday said this is also a time for people to experience the beauty of their cultural diversity or to visit different parts of the region or country to experience the natural wonders.

He also encouraged all Namibians to celebrate and commit themselves to protecting their beautiful natural and cultural heritage.

“Namibians should keep their culture alive and pass on inherited traditions, culture and knowledge to our descendants,” he said.

Speaking at the same occasion, Education Director Isak Hamatwi indicated that heritage gives one pride in their identity.

Heritage Week is held to promote the safeguarding and protection of all cultural heritage in Namibia irrespective of their religious or ethnic identity as well as to promote an understanding across diverse communities of the communal value of heritage.

“We want people to recognise that all forms of cultural heritage in Namibia are valued as equal in importance,” he said.

The celebration started on Monday at the Eenhana Business Park and will conclude on Friday.
