National Tree Day 2024 Launch Sees Six Million Trees Planned for Planting

BOBO-DIOULASSO - Prime Minister Kyelem Jaochimson of Tambèla inaugurated the sixth edition of National Tree Day on Saturday in Bobo-Dioulasso, signaling the start of a significant reforestation campaign across the nation. According to the state daily Sidwaya, this initiative aims to plant six million trees over 120 hectares to bolster local ecosystems severely affected by terrorist activities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the event marked the beginning of the 2024 national reforestation campaign with an immediate action of planting 6,000 trees across five hectares. The launch event served as a crucial step toward achieving the larger goal of extensive land recovery and sustainability. Other local newspapers, including L'Observateur Paalga and Le Pays, highlighted the prime minister's emphasis on the tree's role in resilience and development, with L'Observateur Paalga specifically linking the reforestation efforts to repairing environmental damage from the ongoing fight against terrorism.

In addition to environmental efforts, another major focus of the day's news is the Hajj 2024. The Paalga Observer reported that six Burkinabè pilgrims have passed away due to illness during their pilgrimage. The national committee for monitoring the pilgrimage to Mecca confirmed these unfortunate events earlier in June, noting the support from Saudi authorities during this difficult time. Furthermore, L'express du Faso noted that the remains of the deceased pilgrims have been interred in Saudi Arabia with local approval, underscoring the solemn respects paid to the fallen pilgrims.
