Guiriko: The Guiriko region became the center of attention with the official launch of the national solidarity campaign “Deme Sira,” a government initiative aimed at reviving mutual aid and cohesion among the Burkinabe population. The campaign was initiated on November 20 and 21, 2025, with significant ceremonies marking its commencement.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the campaign was symbolically initiated when the torch was handed over in Toussiana on November 20th. The Governor of the Tanounyan region transferred the torch to Guiriko’s Governor, Mariama Konate/Gnanou, in a ceremony attended by the local population. The torch represented the start of the campaign in the region, emphasizing the collective spirit of the initiative.
The following day, the official launch was held at Martyrs’ Square in Bobo-Dioulasso. Governor Mariama Konate/Gnanou presided over the ceremony, attended by regional and traditional authorities, along with numerous citizens supporting the cause. This event marked the beginning of the three-month campaign led by the Ministry of Humanitarian Action and National Solidarity, focusing on strengthening social cohesion through practices like sharing, hospitality, and traditional mediation mechanisms.
Governor Konate/Gnanou, during her address, encouraged citizens to actively participate in the campaign, highlighting that solidarity is a crucial and inherent value within Burkinabe society. She reminded the population that everyone has a role in supporting each other, stressing, “no one is so poor as not to be supportive, nor so rich as to be able to do without the solidarity of others.”
The campaign’s operational launch was marked by the handover of ‘solidarity urns’ to the High Commissioners of Tuy, Houet, and Kenedougou, setting the stage for activities across the region. Following Guiriko, the “Deme Sira” campaign will proceed to the Djoro region in the coming days.
