Bobo-dioulasso: The Bobo-Dioulasso National Police initiated a significant cleanup operation on Thursday morning, targeting areas around several schools in the city. The operation is part of an effort to safeguard school environments from the influence of drugs, adulterated beverages, and crime, which pose threats to students' peace and safety.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the operation began at approximately 9 a.m. when Lieutenant Aime Karambiri and his team arrived at Colsama public primary school in sector 21. Despite thorough searches of small businesses in the vicinity, no illicit items were discovered. The operation then moved to Alpha Solidarite high school, where law enforcement searched nearby shops, kiosks, and bookstores.
At a kiosk adjacent to the high school, officers found a significant quantity of non-compliant beverages. The seizure included 107 bottles and cartons, featuring 40 bottles of whisky and pastis with alcohol content ranging from 40 to 45 percent, along with several adulterated drinks. Antoinette Some, the bar manager where the seizure occurred, admitted awareness of the prohibition on selling such products near schools. She explained that the absence of police enforcement led to her continued sales but promised to stop selling these beverages permanently.
Beyond the search operations, the police also held an awareness session for students and local business owners, highlighting the dangers of consuming drugs and adulterated alcohol. Many retailers have expressed support for the initiative, believing it will foster a safer and more conducive learning environment for students.
