National Gendarmerie Wins Inaugural Governor’s Cup in Fada N’Gourma

Fada N’Gourma, Burkina Faso – The national gendarmerie emerged as champions in the first edition of the Governor’s Cup of the Eastern region on Saturday, November 25, 2023, in Fada N’Gourma. They clinched the title with a 1-0 victory over the national police team.

According to Burkina Information Agency, The tournament, which began on October 7, 2023, concluded with the final match between the national gendarmerie and the national police teams. The first half of the game was marked by ball recoveries and missed goal opportunities from both sides, with the national police team showing slight dominance. However, the first half ended without any goals from either team.

In the second half, the gendarmerie team stepped up their game. Bib No. 05 of the gendarmerie team scored the decisive goal in the thirteenth minute, following a well-coordinated play with his teammates. Despite various attempts by the police team to equalize, the score remained 1 – 0 in favor of the gendarmerie until the final whistle.

With this victory, the national gendarmerie team won the trophy, a cash prize of two hundred and fifty thousand francs, a set of jerseys, and medals. Colonel Hubert Yaméogo, the governor of the Eastern region, praised the competition for promoting interaction among different socio-professional layers and communities.

Warrant Officer Christian Compaoré, the captain of the national gendarmerie team, dedicated the victory to “all the valiant fighters who fight for the return of peace.” He emphasized that this win strengthens their resolve in various fields.

Sié Edgard Sou, the secretary general of the ministry in charge of territorial administration and sponsor of the event, encouraged regional authorities to continue organizing such competitions. He highlighted their role in conveying human values that foster communal living.

In Fada N’Gourma, a city hosting many internally displaced people, local authorities are keen on initiatives like this to bolster the resilience of the populations.
