ADDIS ABABA: Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed noted that the national dialogue presents a significant opportunity to build a better Ethiopia. The House of People’s Representatives held the 36th regular session today, during which the Prime Minister addressed questions posed by Members of Parliament.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the government has been making extensive efforts to alleviate existing and new problems that have arisen since the reform. He expressed his belief that consultations are necessary to solve longstanding social, political, and historical problems and create consensus. The Prime Minister explained that significant efforts are underway to implement transitional justice to address other lingering issues. He emphasized that open discussions and consultations are key to building a better future, particularly for parties lacking an electoral mandate, as it allows for a broader range of voices to be heard beyond the elected ruling party.
Ethiopia has been in a cycle of conflict and war for a long time, the Prime Minister said, asserting that this cycle of violence should be stopped by this generation. “We should work together to build a country that is better and more comfortable for its people through trust and communication,” he stressed. Moreover, the Prime Minister emphasized that it is impossible to hold power through conflict, war, and coup d’état at this time. He called for respect for the fruits of change and urged all to avoid extreme ideas that hurt the nation, working instead for a common solution.
Abiy reiterated that the Ethiopian government is ready for consultation with anyone.
