OUAGADOUGOU — In celebration of its 40th anniversary, the National Development Service (SND) hosted a public cross-country event in Ouagadougou on Tuesday, aimed at encouraging local youth to engage in sports and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Director General of SND, the event kicked off at the Place de la Nation and included a 4 km route that passed significant landmarks such as the Marien N’Gouabi high school and the Mogho Naaba courtyard, before looping back to the starting point. “Through this activity, we invite Burkinabè youth to practice sport and healthy activities in general,” Benao stated at the event.
The initiative reflects the organization’s broader mission to promote physical fitness as a foundation for tackling societal challenges. Benao emphasized the importance of physical capability in achieving success across various fronts. “This is why we are marking our fortieth anniversary with this popular cross-country event,” he explained, underscoring the physical demands required to meet the country’s challenges.
Benao also committed to continuing sports programs within the SND to ensure that staff members maintain physical and mental well-being. The National Development Service, a public administrative establishment, primarily focuses on combating incivility, the erosion of state authority, violent extremism, and youth unemployment, while also reinforcing citizenship.
