BEIJING—The box office earnings during China's 2024 National Day holiday have impressively exceeded 2 billion yuan (approximately 285 million U.S. dollars), showcasing the strength of domestic film productions during one of the country’s peak moviegoing seasons.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the movie data platform Maoyan reported that the top contributors to this financial success were three Chinese films: "The Volunteers: The Battle of Life and Death," "Bureau 749," and "Tiger Wolf Rabbit." "The Volunteers: The Battle of Life and Death," directed by acclaimed filmmaker Chen Kaige, is a notable standout, having garnered 781 million yuan. This figure represents 38.1% of the total box office revenue accumulated over the holiday. The film, which premiered on September 30, is the second installment in Kaige’s "The Volunteers" trilogy.
Following closely behind in revenue, Lu Chuan’s science fiction film "Bureau 749" and the crime drama "Tiger Wolf Rabbit" have also performed exceptionally well, earning over 353 million yuan and 348 million yuan respectively, as of Monday afternoon. These films have contributed significantly to the overall box office success during the National Day holiday, which spans from October 1 to 7, a period known for high cinema attendance across China.
