Windhoek: Chairperson of the National Council, Lukas Sinimbo Muha, officially opened the 17th and final session of the sixth National Council, marking the conclusion of its 2020-2025 term ahead of the Regional Council and Local Authority elections scheduled for 26 November.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Muha described the session as a significant moment in Namibia's parliamentary democracy, urging members to use the remaining days until 11 November to reflect on and consolidate the achievements of the outgoing National Council. He emphasized the importance of this final session as an opportunity to define the legacy of the sixth National Council.

During this session, members are set to deliberate on the Appropriation Amendment Bill, which Muha highlighted as critical to national interests. He encouraged the debate to mirror the Council's commitment to sound financial management and developmental goals. Additionally, the session will address reports from the Standing Committees and Inter-Parliamentary Organs, showcasing the Council's diligent oversight and policy scrutiny throughout the current financial year.

Muha praised the sixth National Council for its dedication to accountability, transparency, and service delivery, noting its role in enhancing legislative scrutiny, empowering regional voices, strengthening law-making processes, and promoting inclusive development. The National Council, as the house of review in Namibia's bicameral Parliament, consists of 42 members, with three representatives from each of the country's 14 regional councils.
