Luanda: The National Assembly (AN) Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, congratulated her Portuguese counterpart on his re-election.
According to Angola Press News Agency, in the congratulatory message, the Speaker renewed the vote of confidence in the Portuguese counterpart as a recognition of the competence, democratic spirit, and commitment to republican values demonstrated throughout his political career.
Carolina Cerqueira expressed a willingness to continue deepening the historic ties of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation that unite both countries. She emphasized the importance of this fraternal relationship in strengthening democracies and enhancing the well-being of both nations.
The Speaker extended her best wishes for success in the responsibilities entrusted once again to the Portuguese parliament Speaker. Cooperation between Angola and Portugal remains a strategic partnership, evidenced by multiple bilateral agreements, especially in economic and financial domains, highlighted by the Strategic Cooperation Program signed in 2023 and set to last until 2027.
The program encompasses sectors such as Finance, Higher Education, Infrastructure, Mass Media, Justice, and Defense, aiming to promote development and prosperity for both countries. Angola and Portugal established diplomatic relations in March 1976, following Angola’s declaration of National Independence on November 11, 1975.
