National Assembly Speaker Engages in Diplomatic Visit to Kinshasa

Kinshasa: The Speaker of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, arrived in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), for a two-day working visit. Leading a parliamentary delegation, Carolina Cerqueira is working in Kinshasa in her capacity as the Acting President of the Parliamentary Forum of the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region (PF-ICGLR).

According to Angola Press News Agency, Carolina Cerqueira is accompanied by deputies Pedro Sebastio, S©rgio Vaz, Rafael Savimbi, and Jeremias Mahula. During her visit, she met with ambassadors from the Member States of the ICGLR accredited to the Democratic Republic of Congo. The agenda for her second and final day includes meetings with the President of the Senate, Sama Lukonde, and the First Vice-President of the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Isaac Musawu.

In April, Carolina Cerqueira was elected to a two-year term as President of the Parliamentary Forum of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region during its 15th Plenary Session held in Luanda. A key challenge during Angola's term is to strengthen the FP-ICGLR, making it more cohesive and increasing the participation of Angolan parliamentarians in the organization's committees.
