WINDHOEK – The National Arts Council of Namibia (NACN) has finalized the recipients of its 2024 cycle two grant, awarding a total of N$521,624.30 to 15 projects that demonstrate significant potential to enrich the national arts and culture scene. This announcement was made following a rigorous selection process from a pool of 98 submissions.
According to Namibia Press Agency, who spoke with Nampa on Tuesday, the projects selected for funding include a diverse range of artistic endeavors from organizations and individuals such as Home of the Arts (HOTA), Omidi Creative House, and the University of Namibia Press, among others. These recipients were chosen based on their potential to impact the arts landscape significantly.
Gaspar highlighted that the NACN’s funding policy is designed to alleviate financial barriers for artists while ensuring efficient allocation of resources across various artistic genres. These include craft, dance, fashion, literature, music, theatre, and visual arts, reflecting the diversity of Namibia’s cultural community.
“As we gear up for the next funding cycle, we encourage artists from all disciplines to apply for our 2024/2025 cycle three grant, which opens on 13 August and closes on 13 September 2024,” Gaspar stated. She further emphasized that successful applications must address key focal areas such as social protection, research, and the promotion of marginalized and indigenous arts. Additionally, projects should aim to tackle significant social issues, support women’s participation, youth employment, and the inclusion of people with disabilities, develop new works through digital media, and foster arts entrepreneurship.
“By focusing on these critical areas, the NACN strives to cultivate a diverse and inclusive artistic community that not only addresses societal challenges but also promotes growth within the arts sector,” she concluded.
