Ouagadougou: Activist Nathalie Yamb has vehemently denied allegations labeling her as a Russian agent, claiming such accusations are driven by racist and imperialist motives. In a statement made on Saturday, Yamb expressed her dismay at the labels, asserting her identity as an African agent, unaffiliated with any foreign power.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Yamb addressed the accusations in an interview, challenging those who doubt her independence. She questioned the legitimacy of the claims by humorously asking where her supposed salary as a Russian agent might be collected, emphasizing her self-reliance in her activism. “In the struggle we’re in, we need resources,” she stated, further underscoring her point with laughter.
Yamb elaborated on her long-standing commitment to her cause, which dates back to her teenage years. She recalled being invited to speak in Sochi, Russia, highlighting that her advocacy was well-established long before that opportunity arose. Yamb argued that those who brand her as a Russian agent are either ignorant or intentionally malicious, aiming to undermine her intellectual autonomy and the broader African struggle.
In her defense, Yamb declared that she acts as her own agent, and for her family, underscoring her independence and rejection of foreign influence. Her remarks were delivered during an interview with AIB, reiterating her dedication to her cause and her identity as an African activist.
