Narok Town Mourns Surveyor’s Murder; Officials Arrest Two Suspects

Narok, Kenya – Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 29-year-old surveyor in Narok town. The surveyor, identified as Lawrence Nkamasiai, was tragically killed on Thursday morning as he entered his residence in the K24 Estate.

According to Kenya New Agency, Narok County Commissioner Isaac Masinde announced the arrests following a closed-door meeting with Narok Governor Patrick Ntutu, Narok County Assembly Speaker Davis Dikirr, and Majority Leader Dominic Lemain. According to Masinde, the two individuals detained are expected to provide crucial information regarding Nkamasiai’s murder. He urged residents with any relevant information to come forward and assist the police.

Masinde addressed the concerns about increased insecurity in Narok, particularly those amplified by social media. He emphasized that this incident was the first murder in the area since November 2023 and dismissed claims of targeted violence against any community in Narok County. He stressed the region’s cosmopolitan nature, where diverse communities coexist peacefully.

Governor Ntutu mourned the loss of Nkamasiai, whom he described as an intelligent and hardworking individual. In response to the incident, Ntutu revealed plans to enhance security measures in the town, including the installation of security lights and the establishment of a new police post. He also emphasized the peaceful coexistence in the county and called for residents, including those from other counties, to maintain this harmony.

Additionally, Ntutu advised landlords in Narok to maintain tenant profiles to aid in identifying individuals in case of criminal activities. He had earlier visited the family of the late Nkamasiai to offer his condolences to the widow and their three-year-old child.

Narok North Member of Parliament Agnes Pareyio, who also visited the deceased’s family, echoed the need for swift investigations into the murder. Pareyio highlighted the rising concerns about insecurity in Narok and its surroundings and called for intensified patrols by the security team.

The late Lawrence Nkamasiai is scheduled to be laid to rest tomorrow, Saturday, at his home in the Leshuta area of Narok West Sub-county.
