Narok, Kenya—As thousands of students begin their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams in Narok County, one particular student in Narok South Sub County will be taking her exams in a hospital setting after experiencing labor pains on the eve of the examination.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Narok County Director of Education, necessary accommodations have been made to ensure that the student will be able to complete her exams.

The announcement was made during the opening of an examination container at the Narok County Commissioner’s office premises. The event was overseen by the County Security team led by Narok Commissioner Isaac Masinde. Apuko also shared figures for the exams in the county: 14,544 candidates for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), 43,465 for the KCPE, and another 39,976 for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA). Apuko emphasized that all exam-related personnel, including center managers, supervisors, invigilators, and security officers, have been briefed on exam regulations to prevent any irregularities. Masinde echoed this sentiment, urging those supervising the exams to uphold standards and warning that those compromising the integrity of the exams would face repercussions.

Masinde also disclosed that adequate security measures have been implemented to escort the exam papers to schools and back to their respective containers. He advised center managers to remain vigilant against any form of cheating, stressing that a multi-agency team from the Ministry of Education, the Interior, and ICT was closely monitoring to prevent any leaks. Center managers were additionally directed to restrict visitor access to school compounds and to provide assistance to any candidate with special needs.

Two schools in the Maasai Mau region, which recently saw the eviction of residents from forest land, have been granted permission for their students to take their exams without interruption. Furthermore, Benson Lomeri, the person in charge of the Narok GK prison, confirmed that 10 inmates are also among those sitting for exams.
